About British Cycling

British-CyclingCycle Sports Governing Body

Cycling and biking are popular recreational and competitive sports enjoyed by all ages and abilities. Cycling was the first form of mechanical human transportation and has grown to become a diverse sport with many styles using different types of equipment.

They include road and track cycling, cycle speedway and BMX riding on dirt tracks, cyclo-cross racing where cyclists manoeuvre their way, on and off bike, through a course and cyclosportives that provide the opportunity to take part in mass-participation cycling events. Mountain biking is a varied and widely enjoyed sport in its own right. Including downhilling and dirt jumping the bikes usually have fork or dual suspension shock absorbers. Cycling is a recognised Olympic sport and disability cycling is very popular and a recognised paralympic sport. British Cycling is the national governing body for the sport in the UK. It provides advice for city cyclists and commuters and supports cyclists in all parts of the sport, from delivering Olympic medals to encouraging people to get on a bike for the first time. British Cycling members have access to an extensive events programme, racing licences and a range of benefits. It underpins cycling with programmes focusing on facilities, major events, coaching, volunteers, club development and grass-roots participation.
