our-dive-centerTenerife and my favourite dive site

I run a dive center in Tenerife so thought I would offer my own local viewpoint on the area and tell you about my favourite dive site!

Tenerife traditionally known for many British holiday makers seeking sun, sea and lots of alcohol has changed dramatically over the last 10 years, with upmarket 5 star hotels and very comfortable self contained apartments. If you are looking for a busy tourist location then Los Cristianos and Las Americas are the places to be, however if you wish a slower pace of life then just a few kilometres away on the very South of the island is Costa Del Silencio (the silent coast) which has beautiful sunrises and sunsets. If you want authentic Spanish cuisine then the towns of Las Galletas (the cookes) and Los Abrigos (the overcoat) have a fantastic selection of local bars and restaurants. Canarian people are generally very welcoming and love for you to try your best `Hola´ and join in the local atmosphere. Further up the West coast is the cliffs of Masca which is a walkers paradise with stunning views over to the neighbouring islands of La Gomera and La Palma. The North of the island has a completely different climate with more clouds but with amazing wide flowers growing at the roadside and lots of greenery. On the North East side is the Capital city of Santa Cruz which is a bustling town with lots of old buildings and a very busy port with many cruiseliners using this venue as part of their itinerary. Not forgetting the famous Mount Teide which sits in the middle of the island and is the highest point in all of Spain at 3718 metres, that's 40% of Mount Everest. On a clear day you can see all 7 Canary Islands from the top. Apart from scuba diving what else is available, Siam Park is the newest and acclaimed as the best theme park in Europe, Loro Park is a large animal park, Quad Biking, Paragliding, walking, Big game fishing, Whales and dolphins catamaran trips, if diving is not for you try a ride in the Safari Submarine, golfing, pampering spas´s and relaxation treatments, evening astronomy trip.....you can see the list is almost endless.

My favourite dive site

I could write pages of information on the different dive sites in Tenerife but a particular favourite is our stingray dive. Located just a few minutes outside of the harbour at Las Galletas in 18 metres there are always common stingrays and on most occasions the bigger Atlantic rays which are up to 3 metres across the wingspan. It is one of the few places in the world where you can scuba dive with stingrays in their own environment. Also on the same site we have some very large barracuda, lots of silver bream and the occasional turtle, the dive site is teeming with fish and is the site that most divers want to visit again and again. The dive site is suitable for most levels of diving certification. As for the other dive sites you will have to come and explore for yourself!  http://www.tenerifedive.com
