Belle-PlagneResort Lowdown: La Plagne

Choosing a ski resort in the Alps can be a tricky decision so here is our lowdown on just one of them. The impressive La Plagne is part of the Paradiski area in the French Alps and boasts a huge range of activities and experiences to make a wonderful ski holiday destination. Find out if it's the right one for you.

For skiers and snowboarders, the La Plagne ski area offers 130 pistes covering 225 kilometers, including 16 black runs, 34 reds for the advanced skiers, and with 70 blue runs and 10 green runs for beginners. It is perfect for all snow sport enthusiasts and is a snow sure resort. 83% of the ski area is above an altitude of 2000m and the resort has a glacier at an altitude of 3250m.

Ski Schools / Child Care

There are a number of facilities to keep kids of all ages and abilities entertained on the slopes including 16 secure kindergartens for kids  as well as 6 children’s snow play areas and 17 ski schools across the La Plagne ski domain.

There are also 6 ski schools in La Plagne catering for disabled guests offering Handiski experiences from expert instructors, including the specialised Antenne Handicap ski school in Aime-La Plagne.

Off-Piste and Powder

For the thrill seekers and experts out there, there is a wide variety of terrain including the well known off-piste route, the Northern Face of the “Bellecôte” mountain.

And when it’s a powder day, be sure to get your first tracks ticket to get the fresh lines. Only available during school holidays, this pass allows guests to head up to the summit early, ahead of normal lift opening hours, to watch the sun rise over La Plagne, enjoy a buffet breakfast at the Carlina, and ride the untouched slopes alongside ski patrol.

For those interested in cross country skiing, La Plagne offers a huge 80 km of slopes, of which 22 kms can be found in the Champagny le Haut valley. It’s one of the most beautiful Nordic ski areas in the Savoie region.

The ESF in Plagne Centre offers freestyle training camps which are perfect for teens. They offer a great freestyle and freeride initiation where you can learn to jump with the “big air bag”, ride the backcountry, learn gymnastic basics on a trampoline, and take part in skier cross trials. Participants receive video analysis, a photo shoot and a freestyle certificate. Suitable for intermediate skiers and above, aged 12 years onwards. A 6 day freestyle camp costs 265€.
