When it comes to travel, older people have never had it so good, according to a recent survey by over-50s travel specialist Saga Holidays, which says that one in three children and grandchildren are envious of the travelling that their elders are getting up to.

Only six per cent of over-50s were worried about frittering away their offspring’s inheritance.

Over-50s are opting for adventurous treks through Borneo’s jungle, cycling in Costa Rican rainforests and touring South American backpacking routes.

The majority of 50–64 year olds are pulling out all the stops to explore new and exciting destinations. Of those surveyed who would consider releasing equity from their home, 36 per cent said they would use this to fund travel. Of the over-65s, 82 per cent said they were making up for a lack of travel earlier in life.
